The ORS offers ‘on-demand’ training courses for new and experienced boaters.
For new boaters, the ORS, in association with the CPS, offers Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) training online, or in class. The PCOC that you receive from CPS has the advantage of being approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) which means it is valid in the US should you decide to take your boat South down the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) to the Bahamas.
For experienced boaters who want to know more, the CPS offers courses that continue where PCOC training leaves off. For example, the CPS offers courses in navigation, charting, plotting, electronic navigation and maritime radio communications. To operate a marine VHF radio, one must have a valid, Canadian Federal government issued Restricted Operator’s Certificate (Maritime). Those who successfully complete the CPS Maritime Radio course will receive this certificate.
If you or anyone you think might be interested in the training available through CPS, please contact Ken McDonald (613-584-3242) for more information.
